Images inspired by David Whyte

Besides the 500 conversations I have with myself on a daily hourly basis, I often have some kind of looped content streaming in the background  Sometimes it’s a song (“a jitterbug”), other times it’s a quote and occasionally it’s a poem.  For the past few days it’s been David Whyte’s poem “Everything is waiting for you”.  But, while this prose has been going over and over in my head it’s sort of been inspiration for the things I look at, and take pictures of.  I see something here in India and one of the lines comes up and then I take a picture.  Or, I’ve seen a picture I already have, or a friend has taken, and I think of a line.  So, since I’ve been unable to lay down a lot of words to describe this trip so far, I’ve taken the poem and the images out of my mind and on here.  Enjoy.

Your great mistake is to act the drama
as if you were alone.

To feel abandoned is to deny
the intimacy of your surroundings.

even you, at times, have felt the grand array;
the swelling presence, and the chorus, crowding
out your solo voice.

You must note
the way the soap dish enables you,
or the window latch grants you freedom.
Alertness is the hidden discipline of familiarity.

The stairs are your mentor of things
to come,

the doors have always been there
to frighten you and invite you,

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into

The kettle is singing
even as it pours you a drink, the cooking pots
have left their arrogant aloofness and
seen the good in you at last. All the birds
and creatures of the world are unutterably

Everything is waiting for you.
